When You’re Wine Tasting, Don’t Forget the Music!
Team Player Productions almost always makes live music a part of our events – whether it be the Park City Food & Wine Classic or the Steamboat Wine Festival. Now we know our instincts were on target. A recent news article, Mozart and Malbec illustrates that the music you’re listening to can affect the way your palate perceives tastes.
The wine tasting room at Notaviva Vineyards in Purcell, Virginia offers guests a little something extra. While most tasting rooms concentrate on pairing wine and food items, Notaviva pairs wine with music.
Owners Stephen and Shannon Mackey met at the University of Miami where they both studied audio sound engineering. They reconnected years later at a friend’s wedding and eventually decided to start their own vineyard. Once Notaviva was up and running, it made sense to integrate their love of music.
“…this is the coolest sound system in any winery in the world,” says Stephen, who believes that wine and music have more in common than you might think. “They are both subjective; they’re personal; everyone has his own favorite playlist and own favorite wine list.”
