Life of a Wine Expert, Sally Mohr
A Master Sommelier is a premier title that less than 230 individuals worldwide have earned since The Court of Master Sommeliers was established over four decades ago. Now imagine being honored with such an exclusive title, and being the 2nd women in U.S. history to achieve it. This is something Boulder based Master Sommelier Sally Mohr accomplished in 1995, and it’s a title she continues to uphold today.
Sally Mohr’s career began in 1983 when she started working at the well-known specialty retail wine shop, The Boulder Wine Merchant. Jump ahead three years later and she was already the co-owner of this prestigious wine store. During this time, she educated individuals in Boulder about fine wine, and also helped several key Boulder and Denver restaurants with wine lists and staff training, including Restaurant Kevin Taylor. With her tutelage, she helped them earn a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence.
In 2010 Mohr decided to sell The Boulder Wine Merchant in order to focus on educating a wider audience about the joys of wine. She not only is a Master level examiner and educator with the Court of Master Sommeliers, but also enjoys testing her palate in regional and international wine competitions. Her long-term goal with all of her travels? To feel the dirt between her toes in all of the most famous wine regions.
When Mohr is not jet setting around the globe, she continues to share her enthusiasm for wine right here in Colorado. She’s been a beverage columnist for Front Range Living and Boulder Women’s Magazine. Mohr also shares her knowledge with the public through tastings, seminars and wine festivals – like at this year’s Steamboat Wine Festival.
Besides Mohr’s love for wine, Sake is currently her passion. She also enjoys spending time in the beautiful Rocky Mountain scenery with her family.
