Great Wines for Thanksgiving Dinner
Whether you are hosting the big Thanksgiving Day feast, or are attending it elsewhere, providing delectable bottles of wine will be appreciated by all of the adults at the dining table.
The following recommendations can be used to provide Thanksgiving wines that will pair well with a variety of traditional dishes.
Sparkling: If you enjoy getting your evening started with a glass of sparkling wine, opt for a dry brut, rather than one with a sweet finish.
Whites: Chardonnays are the most popular white wines, but aren’t complementary to many of the dishes typically served at Thanksgiving. Expand your palate by trying a Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio.
Reds: Pairing a red wine with turkey means laying off the heavier Cabernets, and opting for something on the slightly lighter side, like a Pinot Noir or a Syrah. You can also go for a Zinfandel but be wary of old vine grapes, which are sweeter and more robust.
Dessert: Your dessert wine options are endless. A Muscato or Riesling will be delicious with pumpkin or apple pie. Bring a bottle of good port for after dinner conversation.
