Denver is historically known for the invention of the Cheeseburger. If you’re ever driving down Speer Blvd in the Highlands, you could pull over to see the marker commemorating this great achievement with the words, “this site was once occupied by Colorado’s first drive-in fast food joint, and it was here in 1935 that the cheeseburger was created”.

While Humpty Dumpty’s cheeseburgers are long gone, Denver is still a hotbed for exceptional burgers. We’ve rounded up a few mouthwatering crowd favorites from the Mile High City.

Crave Real Burgers

If you’re looking for a truly nontraditional burger to jump off the plate, this is your spot! Crave Real Burgers has all the classic’s you’d expect, but also peanut-butter bacon burgers, breakfast burgers with eggs bacon and donuts, and a Slopper (smothered in Green Chili). The Jalapeno Popper burger is the crowned jewel, with bragging rights as the only burger to ever win BOTH People’s Choice and Judge’s Choice in the same year.

Highland Tap & Burger

Highland Tap & Burger is a Denver favorite in the Highlands neighborhood. They boast a huge variety of options for patties and sides. If you want to take it to the next level, get The Tap Burger. It’s a spin on a French Dip sandwich and comes with Au Jus.
